4th Anniversary - Westbrook Mount Pleasant, SC
Imperial Stout 10%
Westbrook knows how to make a killer stout. Their latest effort is the release for their 4th anniversary. It's an Imperial Stout with chocolate, coconut, almonds, and vanilla beans. Imperial Stouts aren't really my style at all but I decided to give this one a shot anyways since it had almonds and coconuts and I friggin' love Almond Joys. I intended to open this one up with family for dessert on Christmas Day. Turns out that I was the only one who wanted to drink that evening so I was stuck with the whole bottle to my face. Not the worst thing in the world.
settled into the couch and poured the first half of the bottle. Super roasty, chocolate aromas are the first thing I notice. Riding shotgun was the almond. Coconut and vanilla only made a brief appearance, which is not what I expected. The longer I smelled, the more I noticed the almonds.
Sips bring on some intense bitter chocolate with some of that dark fruit underneath. The body was like a thinned out Nesquik. Perfect. A nutty almond finish was revealed once the liquid was cleared. I could taste the skin of the almonds on top of the chocolate. Breathing out released some chocolate, roasty heat.
My first pour was gone very fast so I decided to take it slower with the second half of the bottle. As the beer warmed it really opened up. The almonds were still hanging out and I wasn't mad about it. I was happy that my family didn't want to share. I could have sipped on this bad boy for the rest of the evening. My plans to drink on the couch all night while watching Elf were cut short by an incredible slumber that lasted until early the next morning. You bet your ass I was dreaming about that beer.
